A Pair of High Back Neo Gothic Open Armchairs

A Pair of High Back Neo Gothic Open Armchairs
A pair of Neo-Gothic armchairs featuring triple-arched backs crowned with carved finials and spires. The central shield-shaped back panels are upholstered in vivid red velvet, framed by intricate openwork with scrolling vines and quatrefoils. The wood is elm with a fruitwood finish. Above, dual heraldic crests display the family coat of arms and the original owner’s monogram, “J.S.,” beneath a stylized coronet.
Gothic tracery continues along the pierced crest rails and seat aprons. The armrests include hand-carved oak leaf motifs and vintage upholstered pads, while the spiral-carved legs are joined by X-shaped stretchers. Slightly canted for a commanding presence, these chairs are both architecturally and symbolically rich, reflecting the Gothic Revival style and their noble Swedish provenance of Frilord Johan Fredrik Gyllenkrok (1810–1872), Bulltofta Gård. Circa 1860
The chairs are designed to be different in height and seat height.
