A French Bronze Clock with Fine Painted Face with Views of Constantinople
A mantel clock in gilt-bronze and glass featuring an architectural case with neoclassical detailing. The four corner columns are topped with urn finials and joined by a pierced balustrade gallery. Each side is framed in beveled glass, offering a clear view of the inner mechanism, which includes a bell strike movement.
The hand-painted porcelain dial plate depicts a view of the Constantinople landscape with domed buildings in the foreground and distant views of the Bosphorus in soft pastel tones, with minarets, domed architecture, and palm trees. The Roman numeral dial and blued steel hands are centered on a circular gilt ring, adding contrast and elegance to the scene. The front and rear doors open to reveal the full movement and coiled gong. Circa 1880.
