A Victorian Mahogany Campaign Chest
A Victorian mahogany and bois satine brass-mounted campaign chest, in two parts, the top drawer opening to reveal a shield concealing three satinwood drawers and two compartments, with a gilt-tooled leather inset surface, the bottom area resting on toupie feet, with recessed brass military handles on each drawer, fitted with Bramah locks.
The lock-plates on this chest are stamped "Bramah London". Bramah is a British lock manufacturer that opened in 1784 and is still in production today. The finely cut dovetails on this chest are indicative of British manufacture, as oppose to larger machine-cut dovetails which indicate colonial production. The lockplates are also stamped with the VR crown mark indicating this chest is from the Victorian period.
